Brothers Reclaiming
Ourselves
A safe, confidential community where men who have experienced sexual abuse or sexual assault find strength, support, and hope through connection with other men who understand.
"No man should have to heal alone."
What We Believe
What BRO Believes
We believe healing happens through connection.
We believe every man deserves to be heard.
We believe no one should have to carry this alone.
What We Are
What is BRO?
BRO is a peer-led support community for men who have experienced sexual abuse or sexual assault. We are not a crisis line, not a therapy group, and not part of any law enforcement or government agency. We are brothers — men who understand, without judgment.
Peer-Led
Facilitated by peers who understand. No curriculum, no agenda — just brotherhood.
Confidential
What happens at BRO stays at BRO. Your story is yours — we protect it.
Brotherhood
You belong here exactly as you are. No performance required.
The Meeting
What Happens at a Meeting?
Every meeting is simple. There is no curriculum, no homework, and no pressure to speak. Listening counts as participating.
- Men gather in a safe, neutral space.
- A brief opening reminds everyone that this space is confidential.
- Each man shares only what he is comfortable sharing — or just listens.
- There is no cross-talk, no advice-giving, no judgment.
- Men leave when they are ready. No obligation to stay the whole time.
Meetings are held at the Sterling Heights Public Library, 40255 Dodge Park Road, Sterling Heights, MI 48313.
You Are Welcome Here
Is BRO Right for Me?
If you are a man who has experienced sexual abuse or assault — at any point in your life — BRO may be for you. There is no "qualified" amount of trauma. No comparison required.
You may benefit if:
- You have never told anyone before
- You have told someone but feel alone
- You are in therapy but want peer support
- You are years or decades past the experience
- You are not sure what you feel
- You think "other men have it worse"
You belong here if:
- You are an adult man who has experienced sexual abuse or sexual assault
- You are curious, even cautiously
- You are skeptical — that is okay too
- You do not have words for what happened
- You are ready, or almost ready
- You are not ready but want to know more
BRO is not a replacement for professional mental health care. If you are in crisis, please call the National Sexual Assault Hotline (800-656-4673) or call 988.
Common Questions
Frequently Asked Questions
Is this group therapy or counseling?
No. BRO is a peer-led support community — not therapy, not counseling. We do not have therapists or clinicians leading meetings. Some BRO members see therapists independently, and many find BRO complements their professional care. But BRO itself is men supporting men.
Do I have to talk about what happened?
Never. Listening is participating. You are welcome to say nothing at all. You can attend as many meetings as you want before saying anything. You never owe anyone your story.
Is it really confidential?
Yes. What is shared at BRO meetings stays at BRO meetings. Every member agrees to this commitment before attending. We take it seriously — it is the foundation of the trust we build.
I was abused by another man. Can I still come?
Yes. The perpetrator's gender does not change that you are a man who experienced sexual abuse. BRO is for all men who have experienced sexual abuse or assault, regardless of who caused it.
I was abused years ago. Is it too late?
It is never too late. Men come to BRO after 5, 10, 20, or 40+ years. Healing does not have a deadline. You are welcome here at any age or stage.
What if I do not feel safe or comfortable?
Your safety comes first. You can leave any meeting at any time, for any reason. You do not need to explain yourself to anyone. If you have concerns about a specific meeting or member, please reach out to us privately.
Is BRO affiliated with a religion or political group?
No. BRO is completely independent and non-religious. We do not promote any political party, ideology, or organization. Our only purpose is peer support for male survivors.
What does no cross-talk mean?
No Cross-Talk: We give each speaker our full attention. We don't interrupt, offer advice, or respond directly to someone's story during sharing. This helps create a safe, respectful space where everyone can speak openly.
